Note Values and Names Lesson

 

Below are some notes young musicians should recognize. These notes are found in many of the songs we sing and play. We need to learn their names so that we can recognize them and talk about them. Notes tell us when to make sound and for how long we should make the sound when singing or playing.


This is a whole note.
It is an empty notehead.
It's sound is "toe -o -o -o".
Hold it for 4 counts.

This is a half note.

It is an empty notehead with a stem.
It's sound is "toe -o".
Hold it for 2 counts.

This is a quarter note.

It is a colored in notehead with a stem.
